Getting Started with Photomatix Pro High Dynamic Range (HDR)
Location: Southern Photo
Length: 1 hour
Cost: $25.00
High Dynamic Range (HDR) combines information from multiple images – usually bracketed frames with different exposures – to produce enhanced images with rich detail. The effect can be used to extremes to create “artistic” appearances or it can be used in modest amounts. Further, HDR can be used to enhance single images using a process called tone mapping. While HDR can offer some improvements with JPEG images, the greatest benefits are derived from RAW images.
While HDR is now included in Photoshop (CS4 and CS5), most photographers prefer to use either Photomatix or Nik software. The Photomatix Pro software will be featured in this class. This application produces an images containing HDR tone mapping that still require processing by Photoshop, Lightroom or Elements.

Notes
A CD containing the presentation as an Adobe PDF and sample images used in the demos are provided to all students.
Laptops are welcome at all classes. During the introductory classes for Photoshop, Lightroom and Elements, students can optionally utilize their laptops to explore the software during the presentation. During the classes that follow the introductory sessions, students are encouraged to perform editing on sample images that are demonstrated. In past classes, students who bring laptops have been seated next to students without computers. Performing the sample image editing becomes a shared experience.
